Intermarriage is much more common than it used to be, and it's a wonderful thing that it has become normalized in society. However, it can be really difficult for parents to understand that their mixed children may experience a completely different upbringing than their own. It doesn't mean they should be treated any differently, but it means they probably have developed much thicker skin than one of their parents would ever require. They probably face more adversity and for that reason, their parents should be even more empathetic to them. However not every parent possesses that level of compassion, and it shows.
